Resolutions already achieved

I really didn’t expect to achieve or even partly achieve any of my knitting resolutions so quickly. However on Saturday I received payment for two patterns. So phase one of being published is well on its way. The patterns won’t be available until around april.

I decided to celebrate by buying yarn. Mr Moggle drove me to Get Knitted in Bristol. It was like a pilgrimage to the temple of yarn (It was over an hour of driving). They have so much lovely yarn in there and they have quite a big shop. Not just Rowan and Debbie Bliss but shelves and shelves of lornas laces, cascade, blue sky alpacas, fleece artist, hand maiden, koigu, opal. Oh and malabrigo laceweight, not to mention the Knitpicks needles. It was heaven!

I think I put around £200+ in to my shopping basket on the first walk round including some Lorna’s laces and some cascade dolce. Then I sat down on one of the lovely sofas and ended up being pretty sensible. I achieved second new years knitting resolution by purchasing some Blue Sky Alpacas suri merino.

I’m planning on making a Koolhaas hat with it.

Sea Wool is another of the yarns I’ve wanted to use ever since I heard of it. I really wanted the raspberry colour (see it in a heavier weight yarn on Kay’s blog) but sadly they didn’t have it. This peridot was too beautiful to ignore though and I think I will make either monkey or pomatomus socks with it (nothing like running before you can walk!)

Then another semi-solid fleece artist – basic merino in rose. I’m going to make some lace with this – perhaps a simplified melon shawl from VLT.

I was a little disappointed that GK had so few of the semi-solid colours of handmaiden and fleece artist – which I really prefer. They had sea silk, lace silk, and mini maiden but all in colourways with too much verigation for my liking.

I was so tempted to get the full set of Knitpicks harmony options. But I decided it would just be silly seeing I just got given a whole set of bamboo circulars for Christmas. I settled for getting a set of the 2.5mm DPNs to knit socks (and endpaper mitt ribbing) on to test them out.

When I saw these cute french knitting dolls I couldn’t resist getting one for my little sister-in-law who just turned 6 this week. She is always asking me to teach her to knit and we bought her a kit for her birthday, but she is struggling with learning the knitting and I don’t seem to have the knack of teaching her (or perhaps it’s patience I don’t have). Hopefully she will be able to get on a bit better with this – complete with mini-ball of opal sock wool.

On the way home we drove past Hobbycraft just outside of Swindon. I got a couple of balls of Sublime Cashmere Silk Merino that were half price (£1.99) which I might make yet another hat out of or perhaps a baby garment for one of my friends. Also got some Rowan Pure wool DK in black for a branching out scarf for my mother-in-law.

My argosy continues to go well. I’m nearly through the first ball.
